Frequently Asked Questions on Solar Systems

So, solar energy is getting popular, and you might have some questions about it. Here are some FAQs to help you get a better grasp of how solar systems work and what makes them a no brainer choice for many homeowners.

Solar panels capture sunlight and turn it into electricity using photovoltaic (PV) cells. These cells are made from stuff like silicon. When sunlight hits them, it gets the electrons all excited, creating an electric current we can use for power.

There are many benefits to using solar energy:
Cost Savings: It can really lower those pesky electricity bills.  How much depends on your energy use, the size of your solar system, and local electricity rates. Most people see their investment pay off in about 5 to 10 years.
Energy Independence: Solar systems give you a reliable power source, especially if you’re in a remote area.
Environmental Impact: Solar power helps cut down on greenhouse gases and reduces our reliance on fossil fuels.
Increased Property Value: Homes with solar panels often see a bump in property value.

The cost can vary depending on a few things like the size of the system, where you live, and the type of equipment you use.  Contact our team of experts who will be happy to provide you with a customized quote tailored to your unique needs.

Modern solar panels are built to last a long time, usually between 30 to 35 years or even more. High-quality solar panels degrade at a rate of 0.3% to 0.5% per year.  After 25 years, a well-maintained panel might still operate at around 85% to 90% of its original efficiency.  Here at Premier Energy Group, you can rest assured that we only install top quality solar panels.

Solar panels require minimal maintenance. Occasional cleaning to remove dust and debris may be recommended if the panels get very soiled, however typically a good rain shower will keep the panels tidy.

Absolutely! Solar panels can still generate electricity on cloudy or rainy days, just not as much as on sunny days. They’re designed to capture a wide range of light, so they still work in different weather conditions.

Solar systems can still operate effectively in winter weather, although their performance may be slightly reduced compared to sunnier months. Snow can actually enhance solar panel efficiency by reflecting more light onto the panels, provided the panels are kept clear of snow accumulation. Light snow doesn’t stop panels from producing energy as most of the light still penetrates shallow snow on a solar panel. Also, the sunlight heats the panels, helping to melt the snow, which also cleans them. However, if snow piles up, it blocks the sun and stops production. Fortunately, panels have a smooth surface and steep angle to help shed snow. Of course, there will be times when snow does accumulate. No need to stress about it. When Premier Energy Group designs your solar system, we factor in those winter months and their unpredictable weather. We calculate the annual solar energy production to ensure it’s on target, even with snowstorms. Those “slow” snowy days are balanced out by the high production days of summer.
